Mayorkun – Still The Mayor (Album)
Mayorkun’s latest project, Still The Mayor, arrives in 2025 as a bold expansion of his signature sound, blending Afrobeats energy with sharp lyricism and unexpected collaborations. The 12-track album showcases Mayorkun’s knack for balancing high-energy anthems with introspective moments, all while keeping his signature swagger intact. From the opening track, "Keep On Rockin’," to the closer "Jiggy," the album delivers a mix of self-assured confidence and genre-defying creativity.
Standout moments include the fiery "Innocent" and "Diamonds," both featuring Fireboy DML, where Mayorkun’s flow meets the producer’s signature beats for a dynamic push-pull dynamic. The album also introduces fresh voices like Davido on "Blessings On Blessings (B.O.B)" and King Promise on "Hold Body," proving Mayorkun’s ability to curate standout features without overshadowing his own presence. Even the interlude tracks, like the industry-inspired "Interlude (Industry Girl)" with Dremo and The Flowolf, add texture to the project’s evolution.
Musically, Still The Mayor leans into Afrobeats’ rhythmic versatility, with tracks like "Reason 2 Japa" and "Woman" showcasing Mayorkun’s ability to pivot between catchy hooks and deeper reflections. The album’s title isn’t just a nod to his street cred—it’s a testament to his enduring influence, where every track reinforces his status as a leader in the scene. Whether it’s the playful "Would You?" with Olivetheboy or the high-energy "Konko Below," the album feels both personal and universally engaging.
For fans and newcomers alike, Still The Mayor is a must-listen, offering a fresh yet familiar take on Mayorkun’s artistry. With its blend of star-studded features and original compositions, the album cements his place as a defining voice in contemporary Afrobeats.
