Tems delivers a bold, atmospheric track on her 2020 album For Broken Ears with the hypnotic "Ice T," a collaboration that showcases her signature blend of Afrobeats energy and raw emotional depth. The song features Temilade Openiyi, whose production craftsmanship is evident in the track’s layered textures and rhythmic precision. As the second track on the album, "Ice T" immediately sets the tone with its moody yet infectious groove, where Tems’ vocals weave seamlessly with the intricate beats crafted by Openiyi. The result is a hypnotic fusion of melody and rhythm, proving why For Broken Ears remains a standout in contemporary African music.
From the opening bars, "Ice T" captures attention with its hypnotic bassline and Tems’ commanding delivery, which balances confidence with vulnerability. Temilade Openiyi’s production shines in the song’s atmospheric sound design, creating a space where Tems’ voice takes center stage while the instrumental elements complement rather than overpower. The track’s genre-defying appeal lies in its ability to merge Afrobeats’ rhythmic complexity with introspective lyricism, making it a highlight of the album’s emotional journey. Fans of Tems’ work will recognize her signature artistry, but "Ice T" also stands out as a testament to Openiyi’s skill in shaping a sound that feels both modern and timeless.
